Alsept, Polen honored for service to Buckeye Career Center

Two Buckeye Career Center administrators recently received accolades for their efforts in promoting career technical education and for serving the students of Buckeye Career Center.

BCC Superintendent Bob Alsept was honored with the Ohio HOSA Outstanding Superintendent of the Year award by the Ohio HOSA Future Health Professionals organization. The award was presented at the organization’s state leadership conference in Toledo on April 10. The award is in its inaugural year and is meant to honor an Ohio school leader who has gone above and beyond in their quest to serve the students within his/her district.

“I am very appreciative of this honor. It is a reflection of the great students and staff that we have at Buckeye Career Center. It is their daily commitment that creates a culture of success. I thank them and HOSA for this recognition,” Alsept said.

Alsept was nominated by Ohio HOSA President Jim Scott.

“Mr. Alsept was chosen for his outstanding service to students across his district and the handling of tragic events at Tusky Valley and Buckeye Career Center. We are honored and privileged to have outstanding leaders such as Mr. Alsept serving career and technical education and assisting students to create a successful future,” Scott said.

Buckeye Career Center’s Director of Adult Education, Curriculum, & Instruction, Mr. Frank Polen was also honored this week as the Twin City Chamber of Commerce’s Educator of the Year. He learned of the honor at the organization’s annual awards banquet on April 10. Superintendent Alsept nominated Polen for the recognition.

“I am passionate about serving others and through education, I have been blessed to work with many fabulous educators, leaders, and students during my career. To say I am very humbled by this honor is a huge understatement. Education is the greatest service, as it can add value, foster relationships, and provide opportunities that you might not have otherwise known,” said Polen.

Alsept has served as the Buckeye Career Center superintendent for the past 10 years, previously working as the New Philadelphia City Schools superintendent.

Polen has spent the past nine years in his position at Buckeye, previously serving as a building principal within the River View Local School District.
